Why Karate?
The ancient art of Karate offers a unique opportunity to develop self-awareness, to master new skills, and to develop both physical and emotional control. The skills and attitudes you acquire will help you in all aspects of life.
Although students compete against each other, Karate training is more of a competition with oneself, and students proceed at their own pace. The environment is ideal for those who love physical activity but shy away from the pressures often associated with team sports.
Karate, developed centuries ago in the Far East, was originally an art rather than a sport. In Japan, the esteemed Samurai warrior class studied Karate as part of their military training. Although Karate is now a recreational and competitive activity, it is based upon the traditions, training and discipline for the body, mind and spirit which have endured the test of time.
At Minakami Karate there is no limit to what the mind and body can do. Our students learn multiple physical movements along with mental discipline. Minakami Karate Dojo students join for various reasons but all learn the concentration, commitment and dedication required to reach a high level of skill in Karate and build a strong, confident and determined character.
